Αντιμετωπίζοντας το Τέρας!

Today after a long time without cycling, I think I have recovered completely to have the concentration needed to bike again. So I went to the bicycle repairman and got my bicycle fixed. A little bit before the first trip, I had a quite interesting conversation with myself.

Me: After the service of the bike, let’s go for a ride!

Myself: Wait a minute, let’s make a quick check on the basics…

Me: Sure! You start first.

Myself: Brakes?

Me: Checked! Fixed, and changed the brake cable to a new one!

Myself: Wheels?

Me: Checked! No problem, and in their place!

Myself: Steering?

Me: Checked!

Myself: Lights?

Me: Checked! Everything in working order!

Myself: First Aid Kit?

Me: Checked! Minimal, but refiled!

Myself: Helmet?

Me: Checked! Bought a new one! It is the expensive model for more protection.

Myself: Lessons learned from the last crash?

Me: Che…. Wait what???

Myself: I said, did you learn anything from the last crash?

Me: Should I?

Myself: Come on! You must have done something wrong, that you can prevent it from happening again! What is that?

Me: I am not sure! I think I was just unlucky to get my wheel stuck, and lucky enough not to get killed in the accident.

Myself: There must be something you did wrong. Don’t worry there are no mistakes, just lessons!

Me: I can’t think of anything. Maybe I can believe that it happened once, what are the odds of happening again?

Myself: That’s gambler’s fallacy! The possibility of an accident is exactly the same as before!

Me: I mean that I think I am a careful rider, I don’t speed, I am always concentrated, I am wearing protection, I look for other peoples mistakes and so on…

Myself: That doesn’t count, because you were a careful rider also when you had the accident.

Me: So even if we have the same accident, I’ll survive!

Myself: You almost broke your nose before. You were lucky to keep your diaphragm and continue your other hobby, diving!!!

Me: Come on, even with the same accident, the injuries would differ.

Myself: Sure, choose what you would like to hurt this time!!!

Me: Brake an arm?

Myself: You are a programmer for gods’ sake. You need for work!

Me: A leg?

Myself: Walking? How are you going to pass your time in cold winter nights without walking? Also walking helps you think!

Me: One black eye?

Myself: Photography? 3-D cinema?

Me: A rib?

Myself: Next to the lungs? Diving is certainly out of the question then! There is one thing you could lose that you haven’t used it lately.

Me: F**K you!!!

Myself: You wish!

Me: So where do we stand? What should we do?

Myself: If you don’t find the real cause of the accident I don’t think we should go for a ride!

Me: Give up cycling?

Myself: It is an option, we should consider!

Me: NEVER!

Myself: If it was in my hands, I would cancel todays ride!

Me: Ohhh! You are such a sissy! What are you afraid of? It’s man’s nature to scare himself silly for no good reason! Don’t let fear get between us and the pain! Hold on, it is going to be a bumpy one!

Myself: Ahhhhhhh!

Είναι από το post "Dealing With a Beast" από το blog μου, από τις σκέψεις που έκανα πριν ανέβω στο ποδήλατο μετά από μια γερή τράκα - τούμπα που είχα (σχεδόν ένα χρόνο πριν)!
